W9YB: Purdue Amateur Radio

On the last meeting of the Fall 2010 semester, we discussed the events that happened during the semester: new antennas on the roof, a testing session, and regular lunch meetings.

Coming up for the Spring 2011 semester, we planned two events: a general member meeting for the first day of classes and a Spring call out on the 24th. Jeremiah, the club’s treasurer, gave his notice that he will be graduated from his master’s program at the end of December and will no longer be able to hold office. During the Spring callout, we will also be holding elections to fill empty officer positions.

Two community service events will be coming up this semester: POCAR and the Science Olympiad. People interested in helping either event are encouraged to contact the officers at w9yb@w9yb.org.

We’ve spent no money this semester
We have over $500, with $140 coming from dues this semester.

6m fm?! Why? Apparently 2m simplex works very well and more equipment is available.

The following projects have not had much progress:

If we get a nice sat. we should make phonecalls/send emails and make it happen during nice weather

The meeting began at 7:35PM.

There were seven members in attendance.

We discussed the budget, upcoming expenses, and Jake offered to help out with fundraising if necessary.

Project updates:
* Antenna installation has been put on hold because of busy schedules, the final installation might still occur, weather permitting.
* Nathan has expressed interest in building an Internet streaming station to put the audio of our repeaters out for the world to listen. Nathan was unable to attend to give any further updates.
* The 900MHz wireless project may turn into a join project between W9YB and the local IEEE chapter on campus. The IEEE officer involved was unable to attend the meeting.
* Getting new hams licensed has had success in scheduling a testing session for October 23rd, at 9:30AM in PMU256.
* Shack cleaning will commence on a weekend, announcements will go out when this has been scheduled.

We started the year down two officer positions: vice president and secretary. The floor was opened to any candidates wanting either position. Todd MacMillan, KC8UNS, accepted the position of vice president and will be working on organizing our public service events. The position of secretary is still left opened.
