W9YB Repeater Outtage

Current Repeater Status: ONLINE

Purdue University will be performing roof work on Hawkins Hall, where W9YB’s repeater equipment is located. For the safety of the crews working on the roof in close proximity to the antennas, beginning this Monday and until the roofing work completes, all four of W9YB’s repeaters, as well as other equipment housed at Hawkins Hall (IRLP Node, DX Cluster, etc) will be powered down and out of service while the work progresses. The exact finish date is unknown as weather and other outside influences can affect the roof work, but we do not expect them to be offline for long and the repeaters will be reactivated as soon as we receive word the roofing crews are finished.

The club shack in the Purdue Memorial Union will not be affected.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Update 6/1 - Roof work has been postponed due to weather. The roof work and repeater shutdown is now scheduled to occur on the morning of Thursday, June 4th.

Update 6/4 - Roof work has begun this morning. The repeaters have been turned off as of 7:30am. Work will be finished and it is anticipated they will be reactivated around 5:00pm Friday 6/5. This is tentative and may change again due to weather or some other circumstance.

Update 6/5 - Roof work did not finish by 5pm today. The repeaters will remain offline so crews may work on Saturday. Continued work through Monday may be possible as well.

Update 6/7 - Repeaters are back online for the time being. Roof work needs to continue but probably will not until later in the week due to rain in the weather forecasts.

Update 6/12 - Repeaters are disabled again this morning so work may continue. Work will continue at least through Saturday.

Update 6/14 - Repeaters are back on. Will be going down again around Wednesday.

Update 6/17 - Repeaters back down for what will hopefully be the last day of roof work. Stay tuned…

Update 6/18 - Repeaters back online for the time being.

W9YB Minutes - 2009/04/06

W9YB Meeting Minutes
2009-04-06

Meeting was called to order at 19:30 by Matt King.

Members in attendance: Alex Younts, David Estes, Matt King, John Bombard, Caitlin Kincaid, and Tim Miller.

Old Business

Since the last meeting, Tim led a small group onto to the roof to survey and check out the status of the antennas. Tim fixed the 20m rotator and it is now functional. He also noted that the feed line on the stack was mostly gone.

Tim reports that a suitable interface for the 440 repeater is easy enough to make, so this IRLP node will be directly connected to the repeater without using a separate radio, hopefully eliminating some of the problems we are seeing on the 2m repeater.

New Business

Elections were held, the outcomes were:

President - John Bombard

Vice President - Matt King

Treasurer - Alex Younts

Secretary - David Estes

The meeting was adjourned at 20:00.

Big Ten Reflector University Net

This evening a small group of us connected the 146.760 repeater to IRLP node 9440 to listen in on the Big Ten IRLP net as well as participate. We had a very good turn out and look forward to future participation in the NET. This is an excellent way to promote ham activity on our repeaters as well as get more involved with other ham radio clubs.
